On July 23rd, 2014, I was planning my son’s party and I wanted it to be Aaaaa-mazing! I was a stay-at-home mom and wanted to have a breathtaking cake for my son’s birthday but didn’t have the budget for a luxury cake. Maybe, just maybe, I could be the one to make the cake. I had dabbled with cake decorating since I was a girl but struggled to find any resources to learn how to easily make a cake that was level, had sharp corners, or nice smooth buttercream. Grocery store cakes didn’t fit the look I wanted, and high-end bakeries were too expensive! Plus, I wanted to put my own touch on the cake to show my creativity and impress my guests.
I loved my life as a stay-at-home mom; however I yearned for creative outlets. Baking and hosting parties filled my cup. In short I wanted to be the “hostess with the mostest” but didn’t want to let a party budget dampen my vibe. I practiced and practiced frosting cakes but had difficulty seeing if the top was perfectly level. How could I have the cake of my dreams and show off my creativity?
After years of research, countless classes, and working as a cake decorator I eventually created the easiest and most precise way to frost a cake (even if you’re a beginner)!!! Let my years of tinkering be your guide to creating incredible cakes. Now going forward when you present a cake, I know with certainty that the top of my cake is level, my sides are nice and smooth, and my edges are nice and sharp.
Yes, I’m proud to be a mom but am also proud that I have a skill I’ve honed. I love sharing my cake creations with others and hope I inspire them to feel the same way. Not only does creating works of edible art bring me immense pleasure, but I love the reactions I get when I make a special cake.
